How are you? The Alor Textiles Team hopes that you are safe and well. We apologize for the absence of stories on alortextiles.org. We have been preoccupied preparing and giving two presentations about Alor textiles. The first presentation was for the international symposium hosted by the Art Institute of Indonesia in Denpasar, Bali. Linda was delighted to give this presentation entitled, “Traditional Textiles and Natural Dyeing of the Alurung or Alorese Ethnic Group, Alor Regency, East Indonesia,” on October 19, 2020. The Zoom platform allowed for participants from all over the world to tune in.
The second presentation was given to the Textiles Enthusiasts Group of the Friends of the Museum Association, Singapore, on November 20, 2020. Entitled, “Discovering the Textiles of Alor Regency, East Indonesia,” this talk was based on our book, Textiles of Alor.
The team continues to submit proposals for articles about Alor Textiles to help expand knowledge and awareness of this important cultural heritage. We will keep you updated regarding the releases of these articles.
The closure of international borders and travel restrictions to prevent the spread of covid19 has temporarily halted fieldwork. Alor Regency is a "green zone" with a few cases of covid19 have been discovered in the province. However, to safeguard the community and to minimize fear and stress, we have postponed visits to the weavers until overall conditions in Indonesia improve.
If you don’t hear from us before the end of the year, the Alor Textiles Team, Yanti, and I, Linda, wish you a safe and joyful holiday.
Best wishes for 2021.
